12 × 100 × 100 mm｜A small plate that lets you enjoy the thickness and character of natural wood
When natural wood is sliced into thin sheets to make veneer, pieces of solid wood remain at the beginning and end of the slicing process. At MORI KOUGEI, we call these pieces “TSUKI-JIRI.”
TSUKI-JIRI WOOD PLATE was created to make use of the grain, color, and unique character that remain in these pieces of natural wood.
TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate brings the same idea into a compact 100 × 100 mm format.
This version has a thickness of approximately 12 mm, the same as our standard TSUKI-JIRI WOOD PLATE. Although small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, its thickness gives it a satisfying sense of substance and presence as a piece of natural wood.
Even within this small format, each wood species reveals its own distinctive grain and color. No two pieces are exactly alike, even when made from the same species.
Every piece is one of a kind.
Oak is the species we most commonly work with, but throughout the production process, small quantities of TSUKI-JIRI from many other wood species also become available.
Each piece differs in wood grain, tone, and character, making every plate unique.
We currently offer a variety of wood species, and new species may be added as different TSUKI-JIRI become available. If you find a grain or color that speaks to you, we recommend choosing it while it is available.
Use it however you like.
TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate is a small plate without a single fixed purpose.
- For cookies, biscuits, nuts, and other small snacks
- As a small plate for wagashi, monaka, or other Japanese sweets
- For presenting a single piece of sushi or adding a small accent to the table
- Paired with a sake bottle or cup as a small sake plate
- As a tray for jewelry and small personal items

Flat / Natural
A simple finish that highlights the natural color and grain of the wood.

Indigo Dyed
The natural character of the wood remains visible beneath a deep, calm indigo tone. The wood is dyed using traditional Awa indigo and the natural fermentation vat-dyeing method practiced in Tokushima.
※ Once fully dried and cured, the indigo does not transfer color. Variations in tone and appearance are natural characteristics of the wood and natural dye.
Special packaging
Each TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate comes in a custom-made paper box designed specifically for this product.
The simple, refined packaging makes it suitable not only for your own home, but also as a thoughtful small gift.

- Take care not to subject the product to strong impacts.
- Hand wash gently using a soft sponge and mild detergent.
- Do not use in a microwave, dishwasher, or refrigerator. Avoid exposure to high temperatures.
- Contact with iron while the wood is wet may cause discoloration.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
- Do not soak in water for extended periods, as this may cause discoloration, warping, or cracking.
- As this product is made from natural wood, grain and color vary from piece to piece. Knots and variations in tone are part of the natural character of the material.
- The product is intended for food served at room temperature or warm enough to be comfortably held by hand. Avoid placing very hot food directly on the plate.
- Once fully dried and cured, the indigo does not transfer color. Variations in tone and appearance are natural characteristics of the wood and natural dye.
