A Clock Face That Radiates Light.

Every piece of wood tells a story — and in this clock, that story is written in light. Triangular veneers of Japanese Oak are arranged in a radial pattern using MORIKOUGEI's signature Kōsen-bari technique, creating a clock face that shifts quietly with every angle of light. A timepiece and a work of interior art, at once.

Kōsen-bari and Japanese Oak — Two Radiations in One

The Kōsen-bari pattern fills the entire clock face with a radial design that appears to emit rays of light from the centre. But the Japanese Oak used in this clock adds another dimension. Nara (Japanese Oak) contains a natural ray tissue called fu — a medullary ray figure that runs independently from the grain. This fu has its own distinctive lustre: at certain angles, specific areas of the wood appear to glow silver.

The radial pattern of Kōsen-bari and the radial shimmer of the fu — two separate qualities of light, meeting on the same surface.

Two Finishes — Nara and Indigo Dyed

Nara (Natural)
A warm, bright natural colour. The fu's lustre appears as a silvery shimmer that moves across the face as the light changes — quiet, and endlessly alive.

Nara Indigo Dyed
The same Japanese Oak, dyed using the traditional fermentation-vat indigo method of Tokushima. Unlike White Sycamore — where indigo enhances a ripple figure (縮み) — Nara has no ripple figure. Instead, the fu holds its lustre through the dyeing process, and within the deep indigo, the medullary rays continue to catch the light. The result is a radial shimmer within a deep blue — distinct from any other wood species in this colour.

The Hands — Another Piece of Craft

The hands are an original MORIKOUGEI design. Built from a proprietary laminated veneer with an ebony veneer surface, the grain directions of each layer are crossed to minimise the effects of humidity and temperature change — a durable, considered finish that extends to every detail of the clock.

Silence That Keeps Time

The clock uses a QUARTZ sweep movement (Young Town) with no audible tick. It keeps time without intruding on the room — equally suited to a bedroom, a study, or a living space. CE marked, RoHS compliant, WEEE directive compliant.

A Gift Worth Giving

Each clock is presented in a simple, premium gift box. Chosen often as a housewarming gift, wedding present, or birth celebration — a clock made by hand from natural wood carries a quiet permanence that few gifts can match.
