This is a large-format natural wood veneer sheet (900 × 1800 mm) made from rare Jindai Elm sourced in Hokkaido, Japan.

The veneer is laminated with industrial Japanese washi paper, making it flexible, durable, and easy to cut with scissors or a cutter knife.
It can also be applied using a household iron, making it suitable for both professional woodworking and DIY projects.

Sheet thickness: approx. 0.25 mm

Quarter-sawn veneer sheets are available for this species.

About Jindai Elm

This veneer sheet is made from Jindai Elm excavated in Hokkaido, Japan.

“Jindai wood” refers to rare timber that has remained buried underground or submerged in water for hundreds, sometimes over a thousand years before being discovered.

During this long period, minerals and iron in the soil slowly react with the wood, creating a unique calm gray-green (bluish gray) tone that does not appear in ordinary wood.

Jindai Elm combines the fine yet powerful grain typical of elm with the natural coloration created by the passage of time.
Its quiet gray tone with a subtle green hue brings elegance and depth to interior spaces.

This veneer sheet allows you to easily incorporate the texture of real natural wood into furniture, interiors, crafts, and woodworking projects.

Because it is natural wood, grain patterns and colors vary from sheet to sheet.

Made-to-Order Product

This item is made to order.

Shipping: within 5 business days after order.

Important notes:

  • The sheet will be rolled along the 1800 mm length for shipping.

  • Veneer sheets are composed of joined pieces of veneer.

Typical veneer widths:

Flat grain veneer
150–300 mm

Quarter-sawn veneer
60–200 mm

Wood width, grain pattern, and color will be selected based on available stock.

If you have specific requests for grain, width, or color tone, please contact us for a custom quotation.

Because natural wood is used, the product will not have identical grain patterns or colors to the sample images.
Flat grain and rotary veneer may have particularly noticeable variations.

Due to natural wood movement, sheets are manufactured approximately 10 mm larger than 900 × 1800 mm.

If the material is unavailable, we may request order cancellation.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Iron-On Application

This veneer sheet can be applied using a household iron.

We recommend using a heat-activated veneer adhesive that allows you to apply the adhesive, let it dry, and then bond it using heat.

This method gives more flexibility compared with standard adhesives.

Recommended Adhesive

CH7WN
Vinyl Acetate Resin Emulsion Adhesive

Manufacturer: Konishi Co., Ltd.

Formaldehyde rating: F☆☆☆☆

Available sizes

1 kg こちら

How to Use

Applying the Adhesive

Apply adhesive evenly to both the substrate surface and the veneer.

Allow it to dry completely until the white adhesive becomes transparent.

Recommended amount:

  • approx. 10 g per 30 cm square (one side)

  • approx. 20 g total for both surfaces

Actual usage may vary depending on application method.

Bonding with an Iron

Once the adhesive has dried, apply heat with an iron while pressing the veneer.

The adhesive activates at approximately 80°C (176°F).

Bonding can still be done even after some time has passed after drying, but completing the process on the same day is recommended.

Iron Usage Tips

Start with a low temperature and gradually increase it.

Too much heat may scorch the veneer.

The iron can be applied directly to the veneer, but using a thin pressing cloth (such as a cotton cloth or towel) helps prevent scratches and burning.

Do not keep the iron in one place for too long.

For beginners, starting around 100°C (212°F) is recommended.

However, insufficient heat may cause poor adhesion, so ensure adequate heating.

Finishing and Repair

If bubbles appear after bonding, puncture them carefully with a needle or cutter in an inconspicuous area to release the air, then reheat with the iron.

FAQ

Can it be applied to curved surfaces?

It can be applied to two-dimensional curved surfaces, although applying heat with an iron may be slightly difficult.

However, three-dimensional curved surfaces such as spheres may cause wrinkling.

Can you produce custom sizes?

Yes, custom sizes are available.

Maximum sizes:

1200 × 2400 mm

Due to slight shrinkage during processing, sheets are generally produced approximately 10 mm larger than the requested size.

Formaldehyde Regulation

The washi-backed veneer sheets produced by MORI KOUGEI use materials that comply with JIS and JAS standards with F☆☆☆☆ rating.
