The Concept of “Applying Light”
Radiating wood grain spreads outward, adding a quiet brilliance to everyday life.
This tray is finished using our original technique called “Kōsen-bari” (Rays Pattern), in which triangular pieces of natural wood veneer are carefully assembled from the center outward.
Depending on the angle of light and the viewer’s position, the expression of the grain shifts, revealing a beautiful pattern reminiscent of light reflecting on water.
Calculated Handcraft Beyond Machinery
This tray is created by MORI KOUGEI, a Tokushima-based workshop specializing in veneer craftsmanship for three generations.
Drawing on extensive experience in decorative plywood for furniture and architecture, the workshop has established an artistic approach of “drawing patterns with wood.”
Determining the precise joining angles, the flow of the grain, and the unique character of each material requires the trained eye and skill of experienced artisans.
Each piece is carefully finished by hand, relying on delicate tactile sensitivity that cannot be achieved through mass production.
