About PENTA–DRIFT
PENTA–DRIFT is a series built on the pentagon as its fundamental unit — one in which intentional drift and oscillation are introduced to express a state between order and disorder.
Like a tessellation, a single form expands across the surface without gaps. Yet the sequence never quite aligns; it continues to flow with subtle, persistent variation.
A structure that should stand in perfect order quietly unravels, transforming into an organic expansion without direction — this series gives form to that very process.

About the Materials (Wood Veneer)
Approximately 30 wood species are used in this piece.
While the shape of each piece is unified, the color, sheen, and grain direction unique to each species resonate in complex ways within the flowing composition.
Precision Handcraft — Beyond the Reach of Machines
This tray is made by MORI KOUGEI, a workshop based in Tokushima that has specialized in wood veneer work for three generations. Drawing on decades of expertise in decorative panels for furniture and architecture, the atelier has established an artistic approach to drawing with wood.
Reading the angle of each join, the direction of the grain, the character of each species — none of this can be done without the experience and skill of a trained craftsperson.
Each piece is finished with care, relying on the sensitivity of the hand — work that mass production cannot replicate.
