“Japan Mastery Collection” in Haneda Airport Terminal 3

MORI KOUGEI Works to Be Exhibited at “Japan Mastery Collection” in Haneda Airport Terminal 3

Beginning December 11, 2025 (Thu), two works by MORI KOUGEI will be showcased within the departure area of Haneda Airport Terminal 3,
as part of the special exhibition WONDERFUL JAPAN ART! – An Art Gate Sending the Spirit of Japanese Beauty to the World –
held at Japan Mastery Collection (JMC).

It is a rare opportunity to encounter the quiet beauty of wood in a moment slightly removed from daily life—just before embarking on a journey.

■ Introduction of Exhibited Works

1. RAYS PLATE Round L Ai-Urushi

Ai-Urushi is a new finishing method that brings together Tokushima’s natural indigo and traditional Japanese lacquer techniques.
It creates a deep, unprecedented world of blue where the softness of indigo and the profound luster of lacquer coexist.
Depending on the angle of light, the color gently shifts as if it were breathing.

Supporting this layered expression is MORI KOUGEI’s inherited technique “RAYS”,
which arranges wood grain in a radial pattern.
This structure allows the light to spread outward from the center, enriching the depth of the indigo layers.

Material, technique, and regional character resonate quietly within a single surface.

We hope you will take a moment before your departure to enjoy this landscape of blue—
born from indigo, lacquer, and wood.

2. marquetry Rectangle Tray

This tray is crafted using a walnut base combined with various woods such as African padauk, teak, rosewood, and maple
in a marquetry composition.

Each type of wood carries its own breath and individuality.
By assembling these diverse characteristics,
the tray reveals a calm yet profound expression—almost like an abstract painting drawn with timber.

It is a series created with the feeling of “depicting wood using wood.”

■ Encountering Japan’s Evolving Beauty at the Gateway of Travel: Haneda Airport

Japan Mastery Collection (JMC), the venue for this exhibition,
is designed as a space to introduce Japanese craft, art, and design to the world.

Because it is located within the departure area,
the unique atmosphere—both uplifting and serene—makes encounters with artworks especially memorable.
For MORI KOUGEI, this environment is deeply inspiring.

If you happen to travel through Haneda Airport Terminal 3,
we hope you will stop by and simply “see” the works before your journey begins.
