Pale maple with subtle curly figure

A natural wood veneer sheet made from flat-grain maple from Japan, backed with washi paper. The pale surface has faint curly figure: a restrained detail within the grain, rather than a strongly figured appearance.

The photograph shows a material sample from Lot 261031-1, not the complete 900 × 1800 mm sheet. Grain, colour and figure vary with the section selected and how the veneer is joined, even within the same lot.

Our suggestion: use the pale surface across a larger area on furniture or a speaker cabinet. Plan the grain direction before bonding to make the most of its flowing pattern.

Suggested uses

  • Flat wooden surfaces on furniture and interior fittings: Decorative veneering or resurfacing of plywood, MDF and similar substrates.
  • Speaker cabinets: Decorative covering for cabinets made from plywood or MDF.
  • Edges and marquetry: Cut to the required widths or shapes for edge covering and inlay work.

Production and dispatch

Made to order. Usually dispatched within 5 business days of ordering.

This sheet is made by joining multiple veneer pieces side by side, rather than cutting a single piece of wood measuring 900 × 1800 mm. This flat-grain product uses veneer pieces approximately 150–300 mm wide. Widths depend on the wood, and the sheet has joints. For comparison, straight-grain veneer pieces are generally about 60–200 mm wide; this product is flat-grain. To allow for natural wood movement, sheets are made approximately 10 mm larger than 900 × 1800 mm. Packed rolled along the 1800 mm length.

Application and adhesive

Prepare a level substrate, dry-fit the grain, then bond with an adhesive suitable for both materials. The sheet can be cut with scissors or a craft knife. Test an offcut first when using a new substrate or finish.

An adhesive suitable for iron-on veneering can also be used. See our shared preparation and application guide (opens in a new tab) and application video (opens in a new tab).

We sell CH7WN adhesive repacked in smaller quantities. The F☆☆☆☆ classification refers to CH7WN adhesive. Adhesive is sold separately. See the CH7WN product page for instructions and sales conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply it to curved surfaces?

A surface curved in one direction, such as the side of a cylinder, may be suitable depending on its shape and the bonding method. Test first for tight bends or small curves. Compound curves, such as a sphere, are more likely to cause wrinkles.

Can I order a custom size?

Custom sizes up to 900 × 1800 mm are available. The price is the same as the 900 × 1800 mm sheet in the same wood and specification. A smaller size does not cost less. For a custom-size order, contact us with the required dimensions and quantity. We will confirm availability based on the material dimensions and stock.

Before ordering and use

  • The substrate's colour or pattern may show through this pale, thin wood. Test on the actual substrate first.
  • Grain and colour vary from sheet to sheet. The photograph does not guarantee an identical pattern or the same appearance of curly figure.
  • If applying a finish, test a small piece to check the colour and compatibility with the bonded sheet.
