About MORI KOUGEI
Founded in Tokushima, Japan in 1953, MORI KOUGEI is a specialist in the application of TSUKI-ITA — wood veneer sliced as thin as paper — to decorative plywood panels.
We produce panels for a wide range of applications including furniture, architectural interiors, joinery, and commercial fit-outs, combining generations of accumulated technique with an intimate understanding of wood as a material.
What is TSUKI-ITA (Wood Veneer)?
TSUKI-ITA refers to wood that has been sliced extremely thin — much like paper. The name comes from the Japanese word for "to shave," describing how a blade is used to pare away thin sheets from a log.
· Thin-cut veneer: 0.2mm – 0.25mm
· Thick-cut veneer: 0.5mm – 0.6mm
When veneer is bonded to the surface of plywood or MDF, the result is called "decorative plywood" (化粧合板). It is widely used in furniture, architectural interiors, and wood products of all kinds.

Panel Sizes
- Maximum width: 1,200mm / Maximum length: approx. 3,600mm (subject to veneer length)
- Sizes larger than 4×8 (1,200mm × 2,400mm) are available upon request
- Standard sizes (3×6 / 3×7 / 3×8 / 4×6 / 4×8) are more cost-effective
- Long panels (3×9 / 3×10 / 3×12) are available in MDF only
- Custom cut dimensions are available
Surface Finish
Standard delivery is #240 belt-sanded finish (uncoated).
Sander-stop finish or urethane clear coat (70% matte) are available upon request. Please specify at the time of enquiry.
Lead Time
- Small quantities / in-stock species: approx. 3 business days to dispatch
- Orders over 50 panels / decorative patterned panels: lead time confirmed individually at enquiry
- Out-of-stock species / peak periods: lead time confirmed individually at enquiry
Shipping
Completed panels are carefully packaged with corner protection and dispatched to your specified address.
Shipping costs vary by destination and panel size. We will provide a shipping estimate at the time of enquiry.
Veneer Patterns & Wood Inlay (Marquetry)
From traditional patterns such as checkered (市松) and arrow-feather (矢羽) to fully custom geometric designs, we can realize a wide range of decorative expressions in wood.
Text, illustrations, and photographs can also be rendered through our precise wood inlay (marquetry) technique, with lines as fine as 1mm.
Please share your design concept or reference images and we will work with you to bring it to life.

- Enquire: Contact us by email, contact form, or phone
- Consultation: We will discuss your intended use, design, species preferences, and dimensions
- Proposal: We will suggest suitable wood species, colours, and veneer patterns
- Quotation: A written quote will be sent by email within 3 business days of consultation
- Order & Payment: Once you approve the quote, we will send an invoice by email. Payment is accepted via PayPal or bank transfer. Your order is confirmed upon receipt of payment.
- Delivery: Panels are dispatched to your specified address upon completion

· International customers: We accept orders from anywhere in the world. If you are unsure about import regulations in your country, please let us know and we will assist where possible. Please note that any import duties or local taxes are the responsibility of the customer.
Formaldehyde Regulations & Sick Building Syndrome
All decorative plywood produced by MORI KOUGEI uses materials that comply with JIS and JAS standards and are certified to the F☆☆☆☆ (4-star) grade — the highest rating for formaldehyde emission under Japanese regulations.
For information on sick building syndrome countermeasures under Japan's Building Standards Act, please refer to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism website.
