Movingui: Curly Figure in Pale Wood
WOOD DICTIONARY
Movingui, also known as ayan, is an African timber. MORI KOUGEI offers it as a light-colored wood, highlighting its curly figure. It is an option when you want subtle changes in the wood surface rather than a strongly assertive color. MORI KOUGEI: Movingui A4 Veneer Sheet

The photographs are examples of the color and grain associated with each wood or figure. Every piece of natural wood is different; the sheet you receive will not have exactly the same color or grain as the photographs.

When the figure matters more than a bold color
MORI KOUGEI’s movingui product emphasizes pale color and curly figure. Curl describes a pattern of wave-like changes in the wood surface. Rather than viewing the wood as a single color, look at the variations that overlay the flow of the grain; they give a flat surface character. The fineness and intensity of the figure are not uniform across every sheet. MORI KOUGEI: Movingui A4 Veneer Sheet
On a box lid or frame surface viewed at close range, the pattern within the pale wood can become a focus. Deciding first whether color, form, or texture will lead the piece makes it easier to combine materials. A narrow border of dark wood is one way to define the surface.
Choosing standard or bookmatched veneer
MORI KOUGEI sells Movingui and Bookmatched Movingui as separate products. When choosing standard movingui, consider color and the direction of its figure. With bookmatched veneer, consider the pattern created by the paired layout as well. Even with the same wood, thinking about how the surface is composed clarifies the purpose of your choice. Furniture wood character in an A4 sheet
Movingui timber is used in furniture and interior joinery. With A4 veneer, rather than shaping a thick piece of wood, you add its appearance to a prepared substrate. General properties of furniture timber should be distinguished from the strength of a finished object surfaced with a thin sheet. ATIBT Movingui / MORI KOUGEI: Movingui A4 Veneer Sheet
MORI KOUGEI A4 sheets measure 210 × 297 mm and are approximately 0.25 mm thick, with industrial washi-paper backing. This quarter-cut product can be used for covering exposed wood edges, repairing flat wooden surfaces, and marquetry. Prepare the surface and test the adhesive and finish on a small offcut first. As a substrate’s color or pattern may show through light wood, check the combination beneath the surface as well as the veneer itself. MORI KOUGEI: Movingui A4 Veneer Sheet
