TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate
Small in size, rich in story.
8 × 100 × 100 mm|A small wooden plate that celebrates the natural beauty of wood

Another main piece, born from what remains
TSUKI-JIRI WOOD PLATE is a product created to make use of the boards known as “tsuki-jiri”—
the solid wood left behind after veneer (tsuki-ita) is sliced.
Standard TSUKI-JIRI WOOD PLATE pieces are made using material with a thickness of 12 mm.
However, in the production process, many tsuki-jiri pieces are thinner than 12 mm
and would normally be left unused.
At MORI KOUGEI, we value the idea of
using as much of each piece of wood as possible, all the way to the end.
From this approach was born the TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate,
crafted from tsuki-jiri material with a thickness of 8 mm.

What is the TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate?
This product is crafted as tableware for serving food or holding small items,
with an emphasis on enjoying the natural character of wood.
The TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate carries the same philosophy and presence as the TSUKI-JIRI WOOD PLATE,
reimagined in a compact size of 8 × 100 × 100 mm.
True to its name, it is a small plate with a gentle, charming character—
yet one that still conveys the solid presence of natural wood.
While oak (nara) is the most common species produced,
small quantities of many other wood species appear throughout the manufacturing process.
As a result,
each piece differs in wood grain and color, and no two plates are exactly the same.

How to use it is entirely up to you.
The TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate is a small vessel without a fixed purpose.
-
As a small plate for cookies, biscuits, or nuts
-
As a dish for serving traditional Japanese sweets such as monaka or dry confections
-
To present sushi one piece at a time as a subtle table presentation
-
Paired with a tokkuri and guinomi as a plate for sake settings
-
As a tray for accessories or small personal items
-
As a base for a single flower vase or small floral arrangement
Rather than asking,
“What is this used for?”
we hope you will enjoy imagining
how you might use it in your own way.

Wood species & color (variation selection)
TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate is sold as a single product,
with wood species and color selectable via product variations.
Multiple wood species are currently available,
and new ones will be added as materials become available.
Because this product is created by making use of leftover materials,
once a particular wood species is sold out,
it may not be restocked.
If you find a piece whose expression speaks to you,
we recommend considering it while it is available.
Finish
Flat (Undyed)
The most basic finish, allowing you to enjoy the natural color and grain of the wood.
Indigo Dyed
The wood retains its grain while being dyed a deep, quiet indigo blue.
Its appearance will gradually evolve over time, adding to its character.

Packaging
Each TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate is delivered in a
dedicated paper box made specifically for this product.
Although small in size,
the packaging was carefully chosen to avoid a simple or inexpensive impression,
balancing cost with brand value.
Suitable for personal use as well as for small gifts.

In closing
The TSUKI-JIRI Petite Plate is not a plate made simply because it is small.
It was created to give a new role to materials that could not be used at 12 mm thickness—
another expression of the TSUKI-JIRI WOOD PLATE.
When you hold it in your hand,
we hope you can feel the weight of the wood,
its unique expression,
and the time and process behind it.
