What is Jindai Wood?
This veneer is made from Jindai Elm, a rare wood excavated in Hokkaido, Japan.
“Jindai wood” refers to timber that remained buried underground or submerged in water for hundreds to over a thousand years before being discovered.
During this long period, minerals and iron in the soil gradually react with the wood, creating a unique gray-green / bluish-gray tone that cannot be reproduced artificially.
Jindai Elm combines:
• Elegant elm grain patterns
• Naturally aged mineral coloration
• A calm, refined gray tone with subtle green hues
The result is a material with quiet depth and historical character, highly valued in Japanese woodworking and craft.
Because it is natural wood, each sheet has unique grain and color variations.

Iron-On Application
This veneer sheet can be applied using a household iron.
For best results, we recommend using a heat-activated veneer adhesive.
Basic steps:
-
Apply adhesive to both the substrate and veneer.
-
Allow the adhesive to dry until it becomes transparent.
-
Position the veneer.
-
Apply heat with an iron to activate bonding.
Adhesive activates at around 80°C (176°F).
Recommended iron temperature: 100–200°C (212–392°F).
Using a thin cloth between the iron and veneer helps prevent scorching.
Always keep the iron moving to avoid overheating.
If small air bubbles appear, gently puncture them with a needle and reheat to flatten.
Notes
• Light-colored woods may allow the substrate pattern to show through.
• As this is natural wood, grain and color will vary from sheet to sheet.
• Returns cannot be accepted due to natural variation in appearance.
• Grain preference (quarter-sawn / flat-sawn) can be requested when ordering.
