Round RaysTray S Indigo Dyed - MORIKOUGEI ONLINE STORE

A tray crafted using thinly sliced natural wood veneer known as “TSUKI-ITA.”

A handcrafted round wooden tray (L) individually dyed using high-quality traditional indigo dyeing techniques.

With its Japanese modern aesthetic, it is ideal for dining tables, desks, and interior styling.

The indigo-dyed trays are colored using the traditional “fermentation vat” indigo dyeing method with Japanese indigo leaves.

By dyeing the highly figured white sycamore veneer — known for its shimmering ripple-like grain — the beautiful patterns become even more expressive, resembling ripples spreading across the water’s surface.

The deep indigo color, created through a natural traditional dyeing process, continues to evolve beautifully over time as it becomes part of everyday life.

Wood has the unique characteristic of changing appearance depending on the angle of light and the viewing direction. Taking advantage of this feature, triangular pieces of veneer are arranged radially from the center, creating a pattern that appears as though rays of light are emanating outward.

Although the round tray is generously sized, it remains lightweight and easy to handle.

[PLATE]

A story woven by a single plate,
on the small stage called the dining table.

Bringing greater richness to everyday dining.

MORI KOUGEI’s PLATE collection adds color and atmosphere to daily life, creating moments where every bite feels part of a story.

Beautiful, functional, and designed to respond to a wide range of needs, these plates are created to become a new standard for the dining table.

About the Indigo Dye Finish
The Indigo-Dyed PLATE is finished using the traditional Tokushima indigo dyeing technique known as “fermentation vat dyeing,” using Japanese indigo leaves cultivated in Tokushima.

Each piece is created through a collaboration between Watanabe’s — who oversee the entire process from indigo cultivation to dye production — and MORI KOUGEI.

The Cerawood finish provides both water resistance and heat resistance, making the plates ideal for everyday use, while the vibrant indigo tones continue to deepen beautifully over time.

Preserving the natural texture and character of wood, the PLATE offers a unique beauty that evolves with age. Both functional tableware and artistic objects, these plates make everyday dining feel more special.
