Hexagonal Box with Cedar Nemoku Veneer
Finish: Mirror-like lacquer finish
Size: W220 × H60 × D255mm
Production: Kenichi Mori
This piece features a veneer pattern made from cedar root wood (the root part of a standing tree) that creates a rays-like effect.
On the outer side of the veneer pattern, 3mm-thick veneers from 11 different types of wood are layered in a striped design. The side panels use shioji-tama-mokku wood.
A characteristic of woodworking in Tokushima is the process of applying glue to the formed box and using a small iron to attach the veneer. This technique is called "post-pasting."
