Awa indigo in a rectangle. A natural fit for the Japanese table.

Radial grain spreads across 300 × 420 mm.

The 300 × 420 mm (approx. 11¾" × 16½") rectangular form sits naturally alongside the proportions of traditional Japanese cuisine. White Sycamore's ripple figure spreads in rays, dyed in Tokushima indigo. A presence distinct from the round plates — the rectangle has a composure all its own.

About the Indigo

Dyed using the hakko-date (fermentation vat) method — the traditional technique of Tokushima's tadeai (Japanese indigo) cultivation. The dyeing is carried out in collaboration with Watanabe's, producers who oversee the full process from cultivation through to vat preparation.

Awa indigo is Tokushima Prefecture's celebrated natural dye. Within the deep blue, the ripple figure's shimmer rises and falls with every shift of light. A Sera-Wood topcoat seals the color while preserving water and heat resistance, allowing the indigo's natural character to age gracefully over time.

The Rays Pattern

Thin-sliced wood veneer is cut into triangles and arranged radially from the center — a technique known as Rays (光線貼り). The sunburst pattern interacts with White Sycamore's directional shimmer, bringing rich shadow and depth to the rectangular surface as the angle of light changes.
