A name found in the veneer trade

Hoxan's Veneer Collection also lists Shirotagaya as a separate name. This article retains that trade name without replacing it with a particular botanical species. Rather than imagining a uniformly white wood from “shiro,” the Japanese word for white, use the product photograph as one example and check the actual color and pattern. Choosing a pattern for the surface

To show the grain over a broad area, consider a small box lid or the face of a small object. For smaller accents, try a frame, a band, or part of a marquetry design. Make paper templates of the required shapes and compare vertical and horizontal grain directions. Planning the cutting position first helps you decide which part of the pattern to retain.

A thin material for bonding to a substrate

Our Shirotagaya is an A4 sheet measuring 210 × 297 mm and approximately 0.25 mm thick, combining natural wood veneer with industrial washi paper. It is a surface material for decorative furniture edges, repairs or refacing of flat wooden surfaces, marquetry, and similar work, not a thick board that maintains its own shape or strength. Prepare an even bonding surface and test cutting, adhesion, and finishing on offcuts. For repairs, check not only whether the wood names are similar but also whether the color and flow of the lines suit the existing surface. See the product page for detailed application guidance.
