Grain direction draws a pattern in indigo.
This side table combines indigo-dyed Japanese oak wood veneer using wood inlay. The Hoek pattern of repeating irregular hexagons brings together indigo color and the light and shade created by the direction of the grain.

Tessellation through wood inlay
The tessellation pattern repeats identical irregular hexagons that fit together without gaps. Mori Kougei’s wood inlay technique brings the wood veneer pieces together with their grain running in different directions.
The tabletop pattern uses a single wood species. Differences in grain direction create shifts in tone, light and shade as the light and viewing angle change. Walking past or sitting down in a chair, you can discover a new side to this simple pattern in everyday moments.

Tokushima indigo on Japanese oak
The Japanese oak wood veneer is dyed with precipitated indigo made from Japanese indigo plants grown in Tokushima Prefecture. The grain and luster remain visible through the indigo color. Combining dyeing with wood inlay, this table reveals the character of wood veneer.

Place it beside a sofa or chair as a side table for a book or a cup. It measures 402 mm wide × 402 mm deep × 600 mm high. Please consider the height of your furniture and the space available when choosing where to use it.
