WOOD DICTIONARY

Golden-brown tones and a calm grain pattern make teak familiar in furniture and boatbuilding, where the wood’s natural character is often left visible. A4 veneer brings that same visual character to smaller surfaces.

A tropical tree with large leaves

Teak is a tall, deciduous tropical tree with large leaves. Kew accepts the scientific name Tectona grandis and places it in Lamiaceae. Its appearance under Verbenaceae in older timber references reflects a different treatment of the classification. Although native from India to Indochina, teak is planted widely across the tropics; its name alone does not establish the production country of wood offered for sale. Kew Tectona grandis

Golden brown with a straight grain

The Queensland Government describes teak heartwood as usually golden brown, with some wood tending toward grayish or reddish brown. Its grain is often straight and sometimes interlocked. Teak is neither exclusively bright yellow nor uniformly brown: variations in tone within a single sheet are part of its appeal. Queensland Government Teak

When planning a design, try the grain vertically and horizontally, and compare using it across a whole surface with using it as a narrow frame. Simple forms such as box lids and frame edges make the flow of the grain easy to appreciate. If you are considering pairing it with white materials or darker wood, arranging small samples together before assembly can help you choose.

Boat and furniture timber is not the same as a thin sheet

Teak has a long history in boat decks, furniture, and interior panels. Those applications use timber with the necessary thickness, construction, and installation conditions. The species name alone is not a basis for assuming that thin, paper-backed veneer is suitable outdoors or in wet areas. Queensland Government Teak / MORI KOUGEI: A4 Veneer Sheet Product Information

Teak made for applying to a surface

MORI KOUGEI A4 sheets are 210 × 297 mm and approximately 0.25 mm thick, combining natural wood veneer with industrial washi paper. They add wood color and pattern to surfaces through applications such as covering furniture edges, resurfacing flat wooden areas, and marquetry. Distinguish these uses from supporting loads as a board or adding the thickness required for flooring. MORI KOUGEI: A4 Veneer Sheet Product Information

Decide where to cut before taking the size you need, and prepare a flat bonding surface. General references on teak also note the importance of surface preparation when bonding oily woods. Follow the sheet’s product guidance and the adhesive’s conditions of use, and test the finished result on an offcut with the same substrate.
