MORI KOUGEI tabletops are used at the Tokushima Prefecture booth at the Osaka-Kansai Expo.
At the ongoing Osaka-Kansai Expo, wooden countertops made by Mori Kogei are being used at the information counter of the Kansai Regional Federation Pavilion and Tokushima Prefecture booth.
These countertops are made in a large size of φ2,500mm, with white sycamore veneer used on the surface and finished using our unique “light ray bonding” technique.
Light Ray Laminating is a delicate and visually striking technique where veneer is cut into triangular shapes and laminated radially from the center, causing the color and luster of the wood to change depending on the viewing angle and lighting.
For this finish, we incorporated the deep blue reminiscent of indigo, symbolic of Tokushima, which, combined with the natural luster of the wood, creates a serene yet presence-filled expression. The legs of the information counter were created by Tomohiko Kida (@ai_design_con), who works with “Ai Design Concrete,” and the overall design was created by Rikka Fujiwara (Kamiyama Marugoto Technical College) and architect Yusuke Mizobata (VOID).

Tokushima Prefecture is a region blessed with diverse traditional techniques and natural materials such as woodworking, washi paper, and indigo dyeing. In this exhibition, these elements have been fused with modern architecture to create a spatial expression that symbolizes the concept of “tradition meets the future.” As Mori Kogei, we are deeply honored to have been able to contribute to this endeavor.
Going forward, we will continue to strive to create products that connect people and spaces by maximizing the appeal of materials through our unique veneer techniques and adhesive methods.
